First Solid Foods Recipes For Your Baby!

When it was time to start solid foods, I was pretty clueless when it came to what was safe for my baby to eat.  I compiled a list of recipes to ease first time mom stress when it comes to baby food! It is generally accepted to start solid foods when your baby is 4-6 months old.  I started my little guy at 6 months (I recommend this age, but ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR).  Making your own baby food is extremely easy, cost efficient, and healthy!

IMPORTANT!: Always use the 4 DAY RULE - Every 4 days you may introduce a new fruit or vegetable.  This allows you time to determine if your baby is allergic to a certain fruit or vegetable.  This rule should stay in place until you have introduced a variety of fruits and vegetables.  I used this rule for about a month and a half.

Some say that you should ONLY introduce vegetables at first.  This way your baby will not get a "sweet" tooth and only want to eat fruits.  I introduced both fruits and vegetables.

Back to the Recipes!!

  1. Avocado: Cut in half, take out the pit, peel, and MASH! Make sure the avocado is ripe and mash to a puree consistency.  You may add a little water or breast milk to create your desired consistency.
  2. Bananas: Peel and MASH!
  3. Apples/Pears/Peaches: Peel, take out the seeds/nut, cut into 1/2inch pieces, STEAM, and blend to a puree.
  4. Sweet Potato: I wash, poke holes, wrap in foil, then bake them in the oven at 450 degrees for 1 hr and 15 min, then BLEND (with a little water or breast milk)
  5. Butternut Squash: I like to bake it - Cut in half, place in a baking dish FACE DOWN with a little water at 350 degrees for about 1 hr. or you can cut into cubes, STEAM, and BLEND.
  6. Carrots: I get baby carrots, I STEAM and BLEND (add a little water or breast milk)
  7. Peas: STEAM and BLEND (add a little water or breast milk and make sure they are cooked completely!)
  8. Mango: Peel, slice and MASH!
  9. Green Beans: STEAM and BLEND (add a little water or breast milk)

Once you have used the 4 Day Rule on each of the above, you can begin to combine them for an even better tasting meal!
